NEW ZEALAND and Fiji are forging stronger commercial partnerships as business leaders and trade officials gather to boost bilateral commerce and support the local tourism industry.
Speaking at the HOTEC Trade Show at the Crowne Plaza Nadi Bay Resort and Spa in Fiji yesterday, New Zealand Trade Commissioner to the Pacific Cath Cooksley-Little said the event offered a vital platform to strengthen connections between the two nations.
“I’m really excited to have brought across to Fiji a delegation of six New Zealand businesses who are here to connect with the Fiji tourism industry to see how we can work together for the good of Fiji,” Ms Cooksley-Little said.
The New Zealand delegation brings together diverse industries, ranging from agriculture to manufacturing and water infrastructure.
“We have farmers here who are bringing their produce, as well as the CEOs and owners of things and amazing water tanks as well.”
Ms Cooksley-Little said that direct dialogue between key stakeholders was essential for long-term growth across the Pacific.
“To have those conversations with our partners here in Fiji just kind of strengthens the whole community, and it’s a fantastic event that we’re really happy to be part of.”
The effort aligns with ambitious economic targets set by the leaders of both countries.
Ms Cooksley -Little said the prime ministers from New Zealand and Fiji had established a $NZ2 billion target for bilateral trade and exports, with both nations seeking mutually beneficial trade opportunities.
