The Fiji Football Association will explore ways to televise its competitions once given the green light by the authorities to resume sporting activities.

The Fiji FA is hoping for a mid-October resumption of its 2021 season having already reached the 100 per cent first jab milestone for COVID-19 vaccination with the target of achieving 100 per cent second jab by all those directly involved in the sport by the end of this month.

The parent body has set the ball rolling for outlining the policies and procedures for their return to sporting protocols with competitions to be played behind closed doors.

Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said once the approval was given to resume without spectators, then the next step would be to go to the television stations to make a deal to televise the matches for the people.

He said this would allow the fans to watch their favourite teams in action from the comfort of their home.

“End of September is the target for double vaccination for football in the country,” Yusuf said.

“We are monitoring the vaccination data of every district association. “The plan is to resume with the Digicel Premier League and the Digicel Women’s Super League. We will also kick off the Digicel Senior League.”

The DPL and the DWSL came to a halt in April after the sporting restricts were imposed because of the COVID-19 pandemic second wave.

Lautoka leads the DPL points table after match day six with 13 points from four wins, a draw and a loss.

Rewa is in second spot with 11 points followed by Labasa with 10 points, Nadi with nine points, Ba and Suva tied with seven points each, Navua with five points and Nadroga at the bottom of the pile with two points.

Ba leads the DWSL after match day four with maximum 12 points followed by Rewa and Labasa tied with nine points each, Nadroga with six points while Suva and Tailevu Naitasiri are yet to register a point.

Yusuf said given the tight time frame they may had to extend their 2021 season into January next year to complete the competitions. He said they were looking at holding mid-week fixtures.

“We may extend our season into January to finish it off,” Yusuf said.

“But there will be mid-week matches and double headers.

“Games during the daytime will likely start at 2pm. There will be more double headers and this will be good when televising games.”
