THE Global Navigational Satellite System Continuously Operating Reference Station or GNSS CORS comes in with a multitude of potential uses and applications.
Permanent secretary for the Ministry of Land Mineral and Resources Malakai Finau said this during the commissioning of a new GNSS CORS at Delainabua in Suva yesterday.
The introduction of the new GNSS CORS will boost Fiji’s capacity as a country to track and monitor the course of natural disasters.
Mr Finau said CORS would provide understanding of earth processes, including sea level rise, earthquakes and volcanoes.
“This COR Station is one of nine new stations that are being established this year under this program, and the only station to be located in Suva,” he said.
Meanwhile, stations have been established in Labasa, Nabouwalu, Kadavu, Taveuni, Koro, and now Suva.
In the coming months, they will complete the installation phase in Rotuma, Ono-i-Lau, and Lakeba.
