A PROLONGED spell of gusty weather will continue to sweep across Fiji, with rough maritime conditions persisting well into next week, says  Fiji Meteorological Services forecaster Shivneel Prasad.

Mr Prasad said residents should prepare for ongoing squalls following the latest weather bulletin.

“In terms of weather, I do not expect much change, just a bit of windy conditions to continue.”

Mr Prasad said that southeast winds will bring noticeably cooler nights to the group.

The primary concern remains focused on maritime safety, as strong wind warnings cover all Fijian waters.

Mr Prasad strongly caution mariners against taking unnecessary risks in open ocean areas.

“Definitely with the strong wind warnings, small boats are not recommended to be out at sea.”

Mr Prasad said  rough seas present severe hazards for smaller boats , adding that its easy for them to be lifted further away, especially if they have any engine troubles.

While the current warning may briefly lift early next week, another surge of strong winds is expected just half a day later.

Mr  Prasad said only isolated showers might affect parts of the country on Friday and Saturday, leaving many areas completely dry.
