A recent delivery of jet fuel to Nadi International Airport cannot presently be used, prompting Fiji Airways to secure alternative fuel supplies to maintain its flight operations.
Fiji Airways confirmed the issue in a statement today, saying it was dealing with what it described as a “minor, temporary jet fuel supply constraint” at the country’s main international airport.
The airline said the constraint followed a recent delivery from one of its fuel suppliers that could not currently be used.
“Safety remains Fiji Airways’ absolute priority, and the airline does not anticipate any disruption to flights or guests, having already secured alternative fuel supplies,” the airline said.
Fiji Airways did not provide further details in the statement on why the latest fuel delivery could not be used.
The airline said it was working with relevant government agencies, Fiji Airports Limited and other industry partners to ensure operations continued smoothly.
It stressed that fuel would not be used until it had met the airline’s testing and clearance requirements.
“All fuel [is] subject to Fiji Airways’ rigorous testing and clearance requirements before use,” the airline said.
Despite the fuel supply constraint, Fiji Airways said it did not anticipate any disruption to its flights or passengers because alternative supplies had already been secured.
The development comes as stakeholders continue to closely monitor the aviation fuel situation at Nadi International Airport.
