FASANOC | Young and McCutcheon to lead Team Fiji

Listen to this article:

Team Fiji has named swimmer David “Tolu” Young as the Flag Bearer and fellow swimmer Anahira McCutcheon as the Baton Bearer for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The announcement was made at the Team Fiji Assembly last Saturday, where athletes and officials gathered before the team heads off to Glasgow.

Young has earned the honour after an impressive run in the pool. He won three silver medals at the 2023 Pacific Games, represented Fiji at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games where he set a new national record, picked up two gold and four silver medals at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games, and most recently won three gold medals at the 2026 Oceania Swimming Championships. Known for his humility and leadership, Young has become one of Fiji’s top swimmers and a great role model for young athletes.

McCutcheon, one of the youngest athletes in Team Fiji, has also made her mark internationally. She won four silver and five bronze medals at the 2023 Pacific Games before going on to represent Fiji at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She kept that momentum going at the 2026 Oceania Swimming Championships, winning three gold medals and one bronze showing why she is one of Oceania’s most exciting young swimmers.

Their selection is a proud moment for Team Fiji and recognises not only their results, but also the attitude and values they bring to the team. Both athletes continue to show commitment, respect, and pride every time they represent Fiji.

Young will lead Team Fiji into the Opening Ceremony as Flag Bearer, while McCutcheon will carry the Commonwealth Kings Baton, a symbol of unity, hope, and the shared spirit of the Commonwealth.

Team Fiji congratulates David and Anahira and wishes them all the best as they proudly represent Fiji at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
