Mohammed Ali was told he could not make a traditional sasa because he was left-handed.
He had no teacher, no instructions and no guarantee that his first attempt would hold together.
But when the broom fell apart, Ali picked it up and tried again. More than 18 years later, the 56-year-old can make a sasa in about 60 seconds.
What began as an attempt to learn a traditional craft has become a livelihood, supporting his family and paying the bills.
From fishing and uncertain income to mastering a skill through persistence, Ali’s story is one of resilience, determination and belief from succeeding.
He proved otherwise.
The broom that once fell from his hands became the skill that helped him build a livelihood. And after 18 years, Ali is still making them.
