EDUCATION is the single greatest equaliser in any society, it bridges the gap between the rich and poor like nothing else can.

This was the sentiment echoed by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama while opening the new Bau Central College in Tailevu this afternoon.

Mr Bainimarama said because climate change was growing worse every year, there was a need for school buildings that were built to a standard that could withstand the cyclones.

He claimed that the free education initiative was one of the many reasons why the divide between the rich and the disadvantaged in Fiji was decreasing.

“That’s not my opinion either; that is a fact determined by international organisations who measure that progress in our economy,” Mr Bainimarama said.

He said the new $1.6million campus had been built to a standard that was worthy for students, with proper building plans and high-quality materials.
