Two men were produced in the Suva Magistrates Court today in relation to the brawl at McFarlane Rd on Raiwai last Sunday.
Ilikimi Kurusiga and Tamani Dogola who are alleged to have been involved in the brawl were produced before Resident Magistrate Seini Puamau.
They are charged with incitement to violence and disobedience of the law under Order 16 of the Public Order Act 1976.
Police prosecutor Police Constable Monish Chandra objected to the duo being released on bail on the grounds that others involved remained at large, and for their own safety too.
Mr Chandra also objected to bail on the grounds that Police were finding it difficult to keep the peace in the community and the release of the accused may worsen the tension in the community.
Defence lawyer Loqi Cati said the accused persons were held in police custody for more than 48 hours, which was in breach of the Constitution.
Ms Puamau proposed that the matter be adjourned and the accused remanded in custody over the weekend so a full bail hearing could be heard next week where the parties could make submissions on the issues pertaining to the release of both accused persons on bail.
The case has been adjourned and will be recalled on Monday for a hearing.
Both accused persons are further remanded in custody.
