The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s side is all set to have their first ever Buildcorp Super Rugby W home semi-final despite their 34-21 loss to the Melbourne Rebels on Saturday night.
The side needed to score a single point to confirm their first-ever home semi-final.
The Mosese Rauluni-coached side managed to take the lead in the opening minutes of the match after Atelaite Bun scored an impressive try, running 105m before crossing over the Rebels scoreline, which was followed by a successful conversion from Salanieta Kinita.
The Rebels slowly managed to find their footing before running in a converted try, along with a successful penalty kick for a 10-7 lead.
Vika Matarugu powered through from close range and scored a try before Kinita successfully kicked the conversion 7-14.
The Rebels were then able to close the score gap after converting a penalty kick before heading to halftime at 14-13.
Forty-five minutes into the second half, the Rebels were able to cross over for another try to give them a 20-14 lead.
The host stretched their lead once again through another converted try, to give a 27-14 lead 10 minutes later.
The Drua were able to run in a converted try in the last 25 minutes of the match which brought the final score to 34-21.
Meanwhile, the Drua will be playing their first ever home semi-final at the HFC Bank Stadium against the Western Force at 4.35pm in Suva this Friday.
