The Fijian Drua set-up will entice Fijian players playing in Europe to return and play in a professional competition which is closer to home.

The Fijian Drua is set to sail next year competing in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.

Former Fiji captain and Fiji Rugby general manager high performance Simon Raiwalui said what the Fijian Drua would offer was for the team to be based in the country after next season with the team playing in front of its home fans.

“We are not competing with those high-earn European salaries,” Raiwalui said.

“We are in the market of Super Rugby here in the Southern Hemisphere and we are going to be competitive in that market.

“What we do offer as well is that the Fijian Drua to be based in Fiji playing in the country and playing in front of their people.

“You can’t put a price on that and you can’t put a value on that. With the contracts at the moment, the Europe-based players don’t align to that for the first year.

“But eventually we have interest from players wanting to come home. Our players are traditionally away from home and away from their families for years at a time and not seeing them.

“So, it is interesting for them to come home. We are looking forward to our best talent playing in Fiji.”

The Fijian Drua will be based in Australia for the inaugural season which will kick off next February 18.
