Government workers were assured by Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo that their jobs were secure under the new leadership.

While visiting staff members at the Western Division head office in Lautoka, he reassured workers they had nothing to fear.

“Do not fear me,” he said.

“I’m not here to terminate anybody’s job. Rather, I’m here to encourage you all to do your work to the best of your abilities.

“Elections are over and it is now time to work.”

He said contracts were now being discussed between the permanent secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources and the permanent secretary for Civil Service and workers would have the option to retire at 55 years or continue until 60 years of age.

“There will be no longer short-term contracts for established positions in the ministry which gives stability and job security for staff.”

He said that as a former civil servant who served in the Office of the Public Prosecutions and as Director Legal Aid, he understood the call of a civil servant.

He added the need for change to happen in Fiji far outweighed his personal ambitions as a lawyer — and this was why he agreed to join politics.
