THE Desi Netball Association is expecting 12 teams to compete in its Diwali Cup 2026 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Sunday, November 1.

Tournament coordinator Judy Kumar said 11 teams had confirmed their participation, with one place remaining as preparations continued for the one-day competition.

The tournament will run from 9am to 3pm, with an entrance fee of $3 per person.

Teams will be divided into four pools of three, with pool matches followed by the main and plate semifinals and finals. All matches will be played in four quarters of five minutes each.

Desi Netball Association president Karishma Dass said the tournament was an important initiative to provide local Indo netball players with more competition, exposure and development opportunities.

“The competition will also help teams prepare for upcoming events, including the Battle of Giants Championship, National Indo IDC and Easter Games.

“The association is also working towards selecting a team for an international tournament in New Zealand in January 2027, while exploring an opportunity to participate in Fiji Day celebrations in Australia next year,” Dass said.

The association acknowledged the support of the Muslim, Sanatan, Sangam and Andhra Indo netball communities in establishing a platform to develop local players and promote unity through sport.

Salad Bowl Travel Tours is supporting the Diwali Cup, with the association welcoming further sponsorship as it works to create more opportunities for players.

The public is encouraged to attend and support the competition as the association continues its efforts to strengthen local Indo netball and prepare players for bigger tournaments.
