DISCIPLINE will be a major focus for Mahatma Ghandi Memorial School’s Under-16 as the side head into this weekend’s Vodafone Super Deans Trophy national quarter-finals.
Speaking ahead of this week’s clash, the team captain Wasiki Ramatakubou said preparations had gone well despite the high stakes of the competition.
“Preparation is going well. It’s the same as every other team. It’s either win or lose. It’s do or die at this stage,” Ramatakubou said.
Ramatakubou said discipline had been one of the team’s biggest concerns in previous matches and said the players had worked to improve that area during the week.
“I think discipline is one area we need to improve on. We will try our best and just take the win in this game.”
With a place in the semi-finals on the line, he said the team is focused on giving its best rather than dwelling on last year’s results.
“We’ll just try our best. Every other team wants to win but only the best can come out,” he said.
The captain expects another physical contest this weekend, saying their opponents would pose a challenge despite qualifying third from the eastern zone.
“It will be a tough game. They are also a team that wants to win, so we’ll have to do our best and make sure we don’t fumble the game.”
He also acknowledged the support of parents, school management, coaches and supporters who backed the team throughout its preparations.
Mahatma Ghandi will face Lelean Memorial School at the Bidesi grounds at 12.25pm, Saturday August 8.
