The Crown Princess of Denmark, Mary Elizabeth, will be making an official visit to Fiji next week.

She will be accompanied by the country’s Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, Dan Jorgensen.

In a press statement from the Danish Royal Household, the visit on April 25 to 27 will collaborate with United Nations Population Fund executive director Natalie Kanem.

Princess Mary is expected to meet with government ministers where they would discuss issues of climate change in the Pacific.

“There, The Crown Princess will, among other things, focus on how the destruction and evacuations in the wake of climate change result in an increased risk of sexual and gender-based violence, and how the health care system works to protect women and girls in vulnerable situations,” the statement said.

Prior to this, Princess Mary will visit Vanuatu on April 23 to 24. The statement said Vanuatu and Fiji belonged to the group of small developing island countries that are increasingly experiencing the consequences of global climate change.

“As a candidate for the UN’s Security Council, Denmark emphasises the importance of ensuring that the small countries have a strong voice in the global climate negotiations and in matters pertaining to international peace and security.”
