POLICE are now investigating the leaking of confidential information about Fiji’s sixth and seventh COVID-19 cases.

Both Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete yesterday expressed disappointment about the leakage on social media.

The PM said health workers were devastated about the leakage.

“These leaks have made their jobs far more difficult and every time people on Facebook share this leaked information, they do so at the expense of the doctors, nurses and other medical staff trying their absolute best to inform the public in an accurate and timely manner,” he said.

“The police are currently investigating this matter, when they find whoever did the leak, they will be taken to task.”

Dr Waqainabete said the incident was unacceptable.

“Sadly, that somebody in my opinion is weird and also insensitive and wicked,” he said.

“Irrespective of who he or she is within the Ministry of Health we will deal with that.

“We have also alerted police and cyber-crime unit and they are looking into that because certainly we cannot condone that. Leaking individual names, age and so forth is uncalled for.”
