Hand sanitisers and dispensers worth $1 million were yesterday given to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in a bid to help fight the Omicron COVID-19.
Dr James Fong, the permanent secretary, acknowledged the assistance from former Fiji resident and Smart-Gen Australia owner Rakesh Ram.
“The donation has come at a time where we’re dealing with Omicron,” he said.
“While we are seeing the outcome compared to previous waves, we know that there is a lot of pressure in our health system to be able to maintain supplies like this.”
Dr Fong said some of the stocks would be sent to Lau, while others would be distributed to the maritime islands as well as health facilities around the country.
He thanked all those behind the mobilising of the supplies, including Smart Gen’s local representative Bill Mar, Maersk, who organised the free freight, and Shipping Services Fiji which assisted the ministry in transportation, storage and distribution of the products.
