Any cases of COVID-19 in a school should be kept confidential, states the Safe School Reopening Guidelines sent to secondary schools last week. The Ministry of Education said cases in schools were to be managed with utmost sensitivity.

“The name of the individual must not be released to anyone except to MHMS (Ministry of Health and Medical Services).”

The ministry stated any symptomatic student or staff member or parent must not enter the premises. “Any student appearing symptomatic must be referred urgently to health authorities.”

All schools have been told to establish a staff support group that will be trained to take action and monitor COVID-19 cases in schools.

“Record every case of absenteeism, especially for sick cases, as part of the surveillance program.” “Every school will be referred to their nearest health facility for advice.”
