Court remands man for alleged rape, abduction

A 40-YEAR-OLD man charged with a count each of abduction, wrongful confinement and rape was today remanded by the High Court in Suva.

Judge Justice Daniel Goundar stated that the man is charged with a serious offence and has asked his defence lawyer to file a formal bail application.

It is alleged that the man abducted a 12-year-old and raped her at his residence on July 21, in Navua.

State lawyer Kimberley Semisi informed the court that the man was in an alleged relationship with the victim’s older sister.

The matter has been adjourned to August 16, for bail hearing.
