The involvement of Ministry of Health officials in corruption-related offences were among seven key findings that the Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights found in the FICAC annual report 2017-2018.

Presenting the committee’s review of the report in Parliament, chairperson Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure said the findings drove key recommendations that the Committee wanted the Commission to implement.

“The committee noted seven key findings from its review, and these are on the rationale on filing a nolle prosequi on the matter of certain disposed cases, involvement of Ministry of Health Officials in corruption-related offences, selection of communities by FICAC to conduct training sessions on corruption prevention and effectiveness of the awareness program undertaken by the FICAC on selected communities,” said Mr Vakalalabure.

“Other findings also include the education level of the National Anti-Corruption Curriculum taught in Schools, monitoring and Reporting mechanism of FICAC in achieving targets set out in the Sustainable Development Goals and the unclear terms derived on certain expenditures by the Commission as listed under the Financial Statements of its report.”
