THE sacrifice of nine Fiji Corrections Service officers who died while still serving was honoured at a dawn service at Naboro Corrections Centre yesterday.
Acting Commissioner of Corrections Auta Moceisuva led the Remembrance Day service at Naboro, near Suva, yesterday morning, paying tribute to the fallen officers and acknowledging the families they left behind.
The service honoured officers who died in the line of service during the past year, as well as those who were missed during last year’s commemoration.
Mr Moceisuva said the officers had dedicated their lives to serving Fiji and upholding the values of the corrections institution.
“They lived with purpose, they died with honour,” he said.
“They left behind a legacy that will forever protect this Institution.”
He said the officers came from different provinces, backgrounds and walks of life, but shared an extraordinary bond through their commitment to justice and humanity.
Their service reflected the duty to protect the vulnerable, reform offenders and help restore those who had lost their way, he said.
Mr Moceisuva also acknowledged the families of the fallen officers, saying their loss was shared by the wider corrections family.
“To the grieving families present with us today: we say, thank you,” he added.
He urged serving officers to carry forward the legacy of their fallen colleagues and inspire future generations to serve with integrity, courage and love for Fiji.
The dawn service was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, the Fiji Police Force, the Ex-Servicemen Association, corrections officers and families of the deceased.
Mr Moceisuva said the annual commemoration was an opportunity to honour the officers’ sacrifices and ensure their service to the nation was never forgotten.
