THE body of a young woman was found outside the Nadi Plaza in Martintar yesterday morning, prompting an active police investigation.
Mukesh Chand, a coconut seller operating near the site, said youths climbing a nearby mango tree first spotted the body and alerted other vendors and plaza security.
Mr Chand said eyewitnesses reported that the woman appeared to be naked.
“The boys took a sulu and covered her body but that spot where the body was found is a popular drinking spot, we often see people coming on Thursdays or Fridays to drink there,” he said.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident.
Investigations into the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
