When the going gets tough, the tough gets going and the necessary rest sets in right after as the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team will need to prevent player burnout or injuries before the Valladolid 7s kicks off.
It is something head coach Osea Kolinisau says will be considered with great care in light of the team’s 13-men squad travelling for this leg.
“We said we are always going to look after the players, making sure they are 100 per cent when it comes to the game week,” Kolinisau said.
“It’s something that we really watch to make sure that we do not burn out the players.
“We push them hard, but we taper down at the right moment and making sure that they are getting proper rest, they are hydrated.”
He added the team began the day with a set of exercises such as stretches which is something the players have been committed to.
“We tell the players that when it comes to game week, we’re not pushing hard, we’re tapering down and just focusing a lot on our clarity, our JD (job description) on what we need to do in the tournament, in the week of the tournament,” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, the 13-man squad for the tournament will see the return of established players who have featured in previous legs of the series along with Isaia Rugu making his debut.
The squad: Jeremaia Matana, Kavekini Tanivanuakula, Ratu Filipe Sauturaga, Akuila Dranivotua, Nacani Boginisoko, Ratu Sakiusa Siqila, Vuiviwa Naduvalo, Joseva Talacolo, Tomasi Vuluma, Terio Veilawa, Apete Narogo, George Bose, Isaia Rugu.
