Head coach Ben Gollings says the players are well under control after a successful three win at the Sydney 7s.

The Fiji Airways-sponosored 7s team beat Tonga 52- 7, Japan 54-0 and France 19-12 yesterday.

Gollings said they had to set their benchmark against Tonga and Japan and it has been a good start.

“It has been a really good focus, players are playing with control,” he said. “It has been a really good test against France.

“We set ourselves up for a good quarter-final and stay strong.”

As they in a tough journey to defend their title, the Fijian players have faith that they will deliver.

The national side dropped to eighth spot in the series after losing to Argentina in the quarterfinal at the Hamilton 7s in New Zealand last week.

A top four finish at the end of the series will earn the countries direct qualification to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Gollings had earlier said it was important that they set a platform and foundation right to get to their goal.

“For the Sydney 7s it is a different format.

“We have got one game on day one and then two on the next day. So it is a different management perspective for both the team and the players.”
