CNMI has fastest growing US economy for 2nd straight year

Listen to this article:

THE Northern Marianas economy grew by more than 25 percent last year, making it the fastest growing US economy for a second straight year.

Last year’s growth came off the back of 28.2 percent growth in 2016.

Local Gross Domestic Product is now at $US1.32 billion – the highest ever for the territory, driven mainly by the tourism and gambling sectors.

The real GDP for the United States – excluding the territories – only increased by 2.2 percent.

The Northern Marianas Governor Ralph Torres said the economy’s phenomenal growth was nothing short of remarkable.
