The Fiji Police Force has again urged social media users to act responsibly online and avoid spreading rumours that could malign individuals, as investigations continue into allegations involving a senior member of Government.
In a statement issued today, Police confirmed that allegations linking the senior Government official to a person of interest remain under active investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department.
Police said the senior member of Government had voluntarily come forward in late March 2026 to lodge a report, seeking an investigation to determine the truth of the claims circulating online.
The matter is currently being handled by senior CID investigators.
While acknowledging the public’s right to freedom of expression and speech, Police stressed that such rights must be exercised responsibly.
The Fiji Police Force cautioned social media users to carefully discern the information they consume and share, warning against the spread of content based on rumours rather than evidence and verified facts.
Police also reminded the public that investigations take time and should be allowed to proceed without interference or outside influence.
“Everyone deserves a fair opportunity to respond to claims made,” the statement said, adding that the investigation process was the appropriate avenue for establishing the facts surrounding the allegations.
