Christians were reminded to live the characters of Christ during the various church services held in Labasa last weekend.

At the 6am sunrise church service held at the Methodist Church in Tuatua, Labasa, lay preacher Ratu Josefa Celua said the birth of Jesus symbolised hope for all mankind.

“Jesus was born to save us and with His birth, He brought the joy of Christmas which we celebrate today (Christmas Day),” he said.

For the Catholics who attended mass at the Holy Family Parish, Father Carlo Jung reminded them that Christmas was a time of sharing and loving others as Jesus showed while living on Earth.

He added the birth of Christ was a historic event for Christians.

Police, on the other hand maintained tight security during the Christmas week as shoppers packed the town from Christmas eve.

Heavy traffic movement and foot traffic between Labasa Town and Damodar City kept police busy well into the night.
