RUGBY has its own way of inspiring young players, but for Avnit Chand, its more than just loving to watch rugby but he has a mission to accomplish.

The 13-year-old aims to becoming a future national rep and he made his rugby debut in the Nadroga Sevens tournament playing for Tuva rugby team.

The prop forward enjoyed his time with his teammates preparing as a team for the past few weeks.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing for Tuva rugby and they’ve taught me well too.

“I thank the coaches for always giving us directions on how to lift our rugby career and I’m glad to be part of the team and a big vinaka vakalevu to my brothers,” said Chand.

“Playing for the Nadroga rugby team has always been my dream and I believe its possible because most of my friends are from the village and there’s no other sport we play but rugby and I’m learning every day,” he said.

Tuva lost to Bara under-13 in the second cup semi-final after a sudden-death battle after both teams were locked 7-all.

However the Bara young ruggers showed enthusiasm and teamwork in the extra time scoring their winning try but fell short in the final against a ruggered Ba side.

Meanwhile, Chand said despite the loss he’s grateful for his team for making it to the cup semi-finals of the tournament.
