HER desire to ensure that her children are well looked after was what inspired Losana Buisena to attend the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development (CATD), in Nadave, Tailevu.

In February this year, the 42-year-old had to leave her three children with her parents in Vanua Levu because she was sure that if she furthered her studies,it would benefit her children and also her family.

“It was not easy because I was away from my children and my family for three months but I was sure that if my knowledge on how to use money is developed, then ill be able to assist my parents also,” Ms Buisena said.

“We run a fishing business back in the village and we use to gain thousands of dollars from the sales but the cash was not put into good use for years.

“This kind of practice is prevalent in a lot of families in the village but I believe with little bit of training and education on such areas, we can improve our standard of living.

“When I went back to the village last month,I was able to impart the knowldge that I have acquired to my parents and we have now saved some money and today apart from the reunion I’m here with my mother at the Fiji Women’s Expo to sell our handicraft items.

Ms Buisena graduated with a Certificate in Leadership and Entrepreneurship in June this year.

She was among at least 100 former students of the centre who gathered in Nadave yesterday for their inaugural school reunion.

While speaking at the reunion and launch of the CATD alumni, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, Naipote Katonitabua encouraged the students and ex-scholars to maintain the purpose of how CATD was established.

He also urged the students and alumni members to work together in ensuring the progress and prosperity of the institution.
