Government does not oppose the cashless payment system, says Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Biman Prasad.

In response to the Ministry of Health and Immigration Department’s latest notice that no cash payments would be received, Mr Prasad said people could still make cash payments and not online only.

Ïn an interview, Mr Prasad said Government does not oppose cashless payment methods and people could still use this if they preferred.

“But with the two Government departments saying all payments to go through online, that’s not the policy we’ve decided,” he said.

“Eventually everyone will move on, in that direction but here are also people right now who cannot go and make payments online so that has been withdrawn.

“But it does not mean we are not encouraging people to make online payment wherever possible.”

Mr Prasad said Government strategy is to provide people with accessible transactions.

“So in future have more people will be financially included and good for the ease of doing business but we need to understand profile of where people are and not everyone can use cashless methods.”
