SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Mick Byrne said prop Mesake Doge and outside centre Iosefo Masi have been running well with the team over the week.

The duo caught some niggling injuries in their 41-17 win over the Reds last weekend at the HFC Bank Stadium and Byrne said they were doing well and would likely feature in their first-ever Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific quarter-final match against the Crusaders.

“Yes, Masi ran well today and so did Mesake,” said Byrne over Zoom on Tuesday.

“Both of them were well but we’ll see how they pull up later in the week. At this stage, we think they’ll be out there on the weekend.”

Byrne opted for two playmakers with the likes of Caleb Muntz at flyhalf and Teti Tela at inside centre and in his starting 15 against the Reds.

A decision that was questioned by the public but the head coach was happy with the way they handled the reins.

“We had Caleb and Teti out there on the weekend and they had some good leadership in our 10 and 12 channels,” he said.

“Kemu Valetini is equally up to the task and they’ve been good for us so far.”

The Drua take on the Crusaders at Orangethoery Stadium tomorrow night at 7.05pm.
