THE Pacific makes up 30 per cent of its business and is a significant driver of its profitability as an organisation.

Tower Insurance chief executive officer Richard Harding made these remarks while opening their newly refurbished office in Suva on Wednesday.

“Tower Insurance has been in Fiji for over 140 years and we have been part of the Fiji community a very long time and our goal here is to continue to build our business and maintain our role as part of a major contributor to the community here,” Mr Harding said.

“Two years ago Cyclone Winston came through and we were the first insurers out to respond to our customers’ complaints out on the streets helping people recover from the disaster.”

Mr Harding said their main purpose of being here was to set things right for their customers and to help them when they needed it the most.

“The business here has been growing and fantastic and we are looking into investing more into the future of both Fiji and the rest of our business across the Pacific.

“We are probably the major personal insurer in the Pacific as we insure eight islands across the Pacific including Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.”

He said they employed more people here in Fiji and they had a new team of young people who joined them to run Tower Insurance with great expertise from technology, underwriting, claims, assessing claims, accounting and finance human resources — all of which will be done here in Fiji.

Mr Harding said the challenges were normal challenges of growing a business, such as finding good people.

“We have a great team as I said but it is always important to find the right people and to select them.

“Getting our setup right and technology right is also a challenge but because we have the right people we have got things rolling and are ready to go.”
