FIJIANS should brace themselves for an increase in fuel prices because of the geopolitical conflict in the Middle East, says Joel Abraham, the CEO of the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC).

He warned it was only a matter of time before these global events influence local fuel costs.

“We are closely monitoring the global indicators, and with the escalating levels of conflicts, we are asking the people to ensure that they manage and monitor the global markets,” he said.

“This will help individuals and businesses be prepared in case we experience increases in fuel prices in the future as a direct result of geopolitical tensions.”

Mr Abraham emphasised the need to highlight the potential impact of geopolitical issues on local prices, as such developments can have significant repercussions for consumers and businesses alike.
