Plans to amend curfew hours and close Fiji’s international borders are still under discussion, says Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong.
He said if a variant was transmissible enough, stringent border and community measures would only delay the inevitable entry and spread of current and future variants of the COVID-19 virus.
“We must all get vaccinated when it is our turn and continue to be strict with our COVID-19 safe measures,” he said.
The ministry, in a statement, said from January 1, 2022, travellers from travel partner and non-travel partner countries must produce a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken no more than two calendar days before the scheduled day of departure.
Meanwhile, Dr Fong said the supply of COVID-19 vaccines for children between the ages of 12 to 14 would arrive in January.
The ministry had rolled out the COVID-19 booster doses for the specific target population. All individuals aged 18 years and above were eligible to receive the COVID-19 booster dose.
“An individual can receive the COVID-19 booster dose if he/she has received their initial doses of the COVID-19 vaccines at least five months ago,” the statement read.
