Black Rock camp to also serve as regional disaster centre

Listen to this article:

THE Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ (RFMF) Black Rock Camp in Votualevu, Nadi, will now also serve as a regional Humanitarian and Disaster Rehabilitation centre.

This is an addition to its current functions as a pre-deployment training centre for Fijian peacekeepers and troops to be deployed on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief duties.

To promote this, Government had allocated $20,000 in the 2018/2019 National Budget to promote the functions of Black Rock in the area of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

The funds will be used to host visiting delegations from around the world who would potentially finance this valuable project – one that would bring international humanitarian aid closer to the doorstep of effected Fijians and citizens of other climate-vulnerable nations in the Pacific.

The allocation was part of the total budget of $6.3m for the Ministry of Defence and National Security in 2018-2019 allocation.
