FIJI Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf, last night said a local footballer has been suspended for 30 days after he allegedly tested positive to a drug test conducted during the Vodafone Fiji FACT last weekend. Yusuf said the player would be tested again after the ban and would face Fiji FA if found positive. This is after conflicting medical findings about a drug test conducted on the footballer in Nausori last weekend.
Two medical reports allegedly recorded opposing results.
It is alleged that the pathology report from the medical laboratory authorised by Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA), stated that the result of the urine referral test conducted on the player was positive.
On Monday, when contacted, the player said “I am clean. I went for a test at a different lab and they tested negative. I want a re-test to prove that I am clean.”
The player’s association is disputing the allegedly positive report.
“We did a test from a private lab which was previously recommended by Fiji FA where the player was tested negative. “We approached Fiji FA to have a second test on him and to prove if it was (first test) really positive,” a spokesperson said.
