AVINESH Murgessar, a kidney dialysis patient, has welcomed the new dialysis fee of $75 that was announced by the Government last week.

Mr Murgessar, a former taxidriver and the only breadwinner in his family, had to leave his job when he found out that he had kidney problem.

The 40-year-old said his family had to raise money for his weekly treatment.

He said he had been undergoing treatment since March this year and was paying $220 per treatment.

“My extended family is helping me with the payments.”

Mr Murgessar is paying $1760 every month for his treatment.

“We are struggling to make the payments and that is why we are just waiting for the $75 initiative to come into place.”

He said what he was paying for treatment now was expensive for him and his family.

“Very soon we will not afford it. I have two children. I am not working any more, I was a taxidriver and now I cannot drive any more,” he added.
