Authorities are still mum on a possible audit into the infamous election night glitch.

The Office of the Attorney-General is yet to respond to queries from this newspaper about when an independent audit will be launched.

Both the Electoral Commission and Fijian Elections Office (FEO) had also voiced their discontent about the length of time it was taking to put this issue to rest.

Similar sentiments were echoed by many political parties in the country, in particular, the National Federation Party (NFP), whose general secretary Kamal Iyer said nobody, including the Office of the Attorney-General and the Solicitor-General’s Office, should delay the process of an independent forensic audit into the Election Management and Results systems of the Fijian Elections Office.

Mr Iyer said as per the Constitution and Electoral Act, both the Fijian Elections Office and Electoral Commission had powers to authorise a forensic audit into the IT election management and results systems.

In addition, Mr Iyer noted that Section 75 of the Constitution, as well as Section 3, sub-sections (g) and (h) of the Electoral Act, empowered the Electoral Commission to authorise an independent forensic audit. In this regard, a reply was sought from the Electoral Commission last week.

However, by the time this edition went to print, no response was obtained.
