A 60-YEAR-OLD man as recently handed a wholly suspended prison sentence after admitting to unlawfully wounding his sister in a domestic violence incident in Ra.
Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci in the Rakiraki Magistrate’s Court sentenced the man to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for three years.
The court heard that on January 3, 2023, the man questioned his sister about her whereabouts before striking her buttocks and legs with an electric wire. The victim suffered discolouration to her back and buttocks.
The court also issued a permanent Domestic Violence Restraining Order protecting the victim for life and warned the man that breaching either the suspended sentence or the order could result in further charges.
