Army dominates Sukuna Bowl netball and volleyball tournaments

IT was a day of fun and tough competition for the two security forces in the start of the 67th Sukuna Bowl Challenge at the National Netball Centre in Suva.

For netball Police won the title in the service women category while Army won in the wives veteran category.

The Army team dominated in the tournament with seven wins while Police settled with three wins.

Sukuna Bowl Challenge competition chairman Lieutenant-Colonel Avinish Kumar said the competition started on a positive note.

“The first day of the Sukuna Bowl Challenge started off with a bang,” he said.

“The beautiful thing was that the weather was nice and sunny.”

Kumar said there were many upsets in the competition which had set a good pace for the week-long challenge.

“We saw many people in the force who are quiet talented and have represented Fiji in netball and volleyball.

“In the volleyball competition, we had the Army who made a cleansweep and in netball, the service women took the title in a tough match.

“The rest of the week is going to be colourful. We are expecting a large turnout every day from members of the public as they support the servicemen and servicewomen.”
