THE recent discovery of bullets at Natabua in Lautoka has prompted the Republic of Fiji Military Forces to tighten up its processes of handling ammunition.
This is the word from RFMF chief of staff Brigadier General Jone Kalouniwai after investigations revealed that the bullets were properties of the RFMF.
“The rounds that were found outside were RFMF’s property. It was misplaced during some particular exercise and we’ve accounted that with the RFMF and we can confirm it is part of our infantry,” Brig-Gen Kalouniwai said.
He said the RFMF frequently conducted live firing exercises at mountain ranges in Nadi and Lautoka on a monthly basis and there was a possibility that it could have been from a soldier who was going to a shooting range or by someone who was going on a separate duty.
However, Brig-Gen Kalouniwai said the issue now was not trying to identify who misplaced the bullets, but the procedures involved.
