Alleged drug suspect couple appear in court

AUSTRALIAN couple John and Yvette Nikolic appeared at the High Court in Lautoka this morning, facing charges of illegal importation of illegal drugs.

The pair’s yacht Shenanigans was raided by Fiji police and customs officials last month and authorities allegedly seized 12.9kilograms of cocaine, 34.4grams of methamphetamine and cocaine tablets with an estimated value between $20million and $30million.

Firearms were also allegedly confiscated.

Judge Justice Sunil Sharma granted the State seven days to file further information.

State lawyers had asked for similar extensions on two previous court appearances.

Meanwhile, the court also granted defence lawyer Wasu Pillay’s request for an hour and a half consultation with his clients at the High Court library.

The case will be called again on August 7.
