Digicel yesterday announced its “All In for Fiji” initiative, which will result in a total of $50,000 handed out for various community projects in the country.
CEO Farid Mohammed said the cash grants for community projects was Digicel Fiji’s contribution towards the nation’s 50th Independence Day celebrations next month.
He said the grants would help people be a voice for their community by highlighting the challenges they were going through.
“We want our people to make a difference in their communities and we are supporting them to start their own development projects,” Mr Mohammed said.
“We know there are many ideas to see communities uplift and we want to hear from you so we can help with funding to address these issues.”
He said Digicel had been heavily involved in various community projects since 2008, including distributing relief supplies during natural disasters, refurbishment of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s Maternity Ward, support for the Fiji Heart Foundation, WOWS Kids, United Blind Persons and $100,000 cash sponsorship for Team Fiji Special Olympics at last year’s World Games.
“This funding will help individuals or groups implement projects to uplift local communities.
“We want to empower, support and help to positively impact the lives of others.

“This year we wanted to celebrate our proactive involvement in community development by focusing on ensuring that our investment would touch the hearts of people.
“Our fellow Fijians are going through tough times during the COVID-19 pandemic and we want to bring hope, confidence and a sense of belief back in our local communities.
“We want you to be agents of change in your community, and be proud that through the work you do, Digicel Fiji is able to contribute to the development of the nation.”

Entries are open to Fiji residents only, and interested persons must have parental support if under the age of 18 years. Entries close on September 25.
