Zafir Ali was the star of the Baulevu High School under-18 futsal team as his lone goal in the second spell saw his team beat Sila Central College during the Fiji Football Association/Southern Secondary Schools Futsal Championship on Saturday.

The win sees Baulevu High School improve its record to three wins from four games.

The side had earlier defeated Gospel High and Nakasi High schools in the competition.

The one loss recorded was against DAV College.

Coach Yogesh Chand said the team had been progressing well.

“It is our first time in futsal. So far good progress has been seen as the tournament moves into the business end,” Chand said.

He added the team took preparations seriously and had been making training trips to the Fiji FA Academy.

“We do train at the FFA Academy in Suva. National futsal coach Jerry Sam had assisted us in training.”

Chand said national futsal rep Rajneel Singh was a schoolteacher at Baulevu High School and has inspired many students to take up the sports.
