Akbar urges public to report attacks

Members of the public have been urged by Minister for Education Rosy Akbar to lodge complaints against teachers posting malicious comments on social media.

This follows a complaint that a Facebook account, that appeared to belong to schoolteacher Kishore Kumar, made personal attacks against National Federation Party member Lenora Qereqeretabua which the Education Ministry says it was not aware of.

When queried why the ministry took long to address the issue, Ms Akbar said she was not aware of the matter, adding they did not have a body to monitor social media postings.

Mr Kumar had allegedly attacked Ms Qereqeretabua on his Facebook page, making public postings to embarrass her with references to pornography and immorality and had referred to her as a “porn star”.
