HUNGARIAN national Fonta Laszlo remains in custody following an appearance before High Court judge Justice Aruna Aluthge in Lautoka yesterday regarding the alleged importation of nearly five kilograms of methamphetamine through Nadi International Airport.

Mr Laszlo was arrested on April 17 and faces one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs and two counts of unlawful possession.

While representations had been made to the State, defence lawyer Litia Vateitei told the court that no formal bail application had been made yet.

The court heard that pre-trial conference documents and agreed facts had been submitted to the defence.

Ms Vateitei told the court that these documents would be dealt with by the next mention date.

The court heard that an interpreter had been engaged directly by Mr Laszlo to assist him during the proceedings.

Justice Aluthge adjourned the matter to November 4 and remanded Mr Laszlo in custody.
