THE Agriculture Ministry will implement five new initiatives to influence production through demand-side intervention, says Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy.

Speaking at the Legalega Research Station today, Dr Reddy said the new initiatives included optimising the use of JUNCAO Grass to enhance livestock production, backyard gardening, establishment of fruit tree orchards, up-scaling pulses seed production and introducing a business incubation scheme for young farmers.

“These programs will all be implemented concurrently with our existing programs during this financial year 2018/2019 and is indicative of Government’s continued commitment towards the agriculture sector,” Dr Reddy said.

He said the programs would usher in new outcomes as they were multi-pronged and would have long-lasting impacts on the sector.
