THOUSANDS of people are expected to gather at Subrail Park today as the National Agriculture Show returns to Labasa after a six-year lapse.
The three-day event begins today and runs until Wednesday, with both grounds at Subrail Park to be used.
Divisional principal agriculture officer Surendra Prasad said the return of the event would give people in the North an opportunity to see a wide range of agricultural products, equipment and activities.
The event is expected to bring together farmers, agriculture officers and others in the sector, while members of the public will also have the opportunity to learn more about agriculture.
Mr Prasad said agricultural produce and tools would be among the displays.
“Agriculture remains important to communities and the country,” he said.
The return of the show comes as farmers continue to face challenges, including climate change, food security and economic pressures.
He said farmers needed to continue using their knowledge and skills to strengthen agriculture in their communities.
Mr Prasad said the sector also needed more people willing to learn, adopt new farming methods and contribute to food production.
