GOVERNMENT agencies have not reported any immediate resource constraints affecting the response to water shortages in the Northern Division.
Acting Commissioner Northern Apolosi Lewaqai said preparedness measures were already in place, but the level of assistance required would depend on how long and how severely the dry spell continued.
“Relevant Government agencies have advised that preparedness measures for prolonged dry weather conditions are already being implemented and remain under continuous review,” he said.
Mr Lewaqai said water sources and supply systems were being monitored while water carting arrangements were maintained for affected communities.
“Borehole development and rehabilitation works are being carried out.
“Standby vessels are being positioned to facilitate water delivery to maritime and remote communities if required.”
He said Government agencies were also involved in inter-agency contingency planning.
“This is to ensure a timely, effective and scalable response to any escalation in water shortages or related impacts resulting from continued dry conditions.”
He said there had been no public indications of immediate resource constraints affecting response operations.
