THE general public is being advised to take heed of the heavy rain and flash flood warning that has been issued for most parts of the country.

The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) reiterated that there are road closures in the low lying areas of Viti Levu due to flooding.

“Due to sustained rainfall there will be high soil saturation, surface run offs and the possibility of landslides,” NDMO said.

“In case of landslides, the public is advised to first contact the Mineral Resources Department on 338 1611 or the NDMO on 3319 250 before any steps are taken to clear the slip.

“The Public is also advised to continue monitoring the weather bulletins and forecasts on the radio or on the Fiji Meteorological Services Website at www.met.gov.fj .”
